Casa Grande council approves concrete slab replacement at Dave White Golf Course pump station

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The Casa Grande City Council on Tuesday approved a contract to remove and replace a concrete slab at the vertical turbine pump station on the Dave White Golf Course, saying the work will provide a level foundation for newly purchased pump equipment.
City staff said the existing slab had settled and could compromise the installation and performance of two new vertical turbine pump stations. The council voted unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 5745, which authorizes execution of the contract and expenditure of funds to Bestway Electric Motor Service Company, Inc.
Community Services Director Danny Geilgosa told the council that the replacement is being added to the larger pump-station replacement project after site coordination with the equipment manufacturer and installer. "Given the significant investment in the pump station, staff determined it was prudent to replace the front 9 cement slab to provide a stable and level foundation," Geilgosa said.
Aaron Walter, who introduced the item as deputy director, and Geilgosa said the project is part of an overall two-pump purchase: a back-9 pump station expected for delivery in early February and a front-9 pump station expected in March. City staff said the purchase and installation work are funded through the city's capital-improvement program. Staff reported a combined allocation of about $550,000 for the pump-station project, $486,984.40 of which was already encumbered for purchase and installation; staff said an available balance remained to cover contract costs.

The council's action authorizes staff to issue a purchase order or contract to Bestway Electric Motor Service Company, Inc. and move forward with the slab removal and replacement as part of the pump-station project. Staff said the installation and commissioning of the pumps will be coordinated with the equipment manufacturer and installer once site work is complete.
