Lucas County joins proposed Ohio Large Urban Counties Alliance to coordinate statewide advocacy

The Lucas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize a memorandum of understanding to establish the Ohio Large Urban Counties Alliance, an initiative led by the county to coordinate policy and advocacy among Ohio's largest urban counties.

Commissioner Gerken, who introduced the resolution, described the alliance as a first-of-its-kind effort in Ohio that will bring together the six largest counties — Lucas, Cuyahoga, Summit, Franklin, Montgomery and Hamilton — to present a joint voice to the state on issues such as housing and economic development. "The state government has never seen representatives from the 6 largest counties all walk together to promote the same issues, and to ask for advocacy on the same issues," Gerken said, noting the counties together represent a large share of the state's population and economy.
