Resident urges crosswalk at busy 355 intersection after pedestrian struck

A Gaithersburg resident told the City Council Feb. 3 that he had witnessed a woman struck by a car at the intersection of North Westland and U.S. 355 near the Liberty gas station and urged the city to install a crosswalk or traffic signal.
"This intersection has become very busy with cars and pedestrians due to the new Aldi's in the shopping center," resident Phil Cook said. "There's no crosswalk at this busy intersection. I believe that we need a traffic light or at the very least a crosswalk so that another tragedy like this does not happen again."
A staff member acknowledged the report and took note for follow up; the council did not take formal action at the meeting. The resident said many people cross at that location daily and described it as a recurring safety concern.
