The Hanover School Committee voted unanimously to approve two new student clubs — Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) and Morgan’s Message — following student presentations and staff advisement.
HANOVER, Mass. — The Hanover School Committee on Jan. 15 voted to approve two new student clubs at Hanover High School: the Health Occupation Students of America chapter (HOSA) and Morgan’s Message, a peer-to-peer mental-health group for student athletes.
School officials said both clubs presented plans for membership, meeting schedules and funding. The committee voted 5–0 to approve each request.
HOSA: Marina Khalil, a junior, proposed establishing HOSA to give students experiential opportunities in health careers. Khalil told the committee that HOSA “prepares students for careers in healthcare by focusing on leadership, experiential learning, and competitions,” and that the club plans to fundraise so conference costs will not block participation. She said meeting days were expected to be Tuesday or Wednesday mornings at about 7:15.
Morgan’s Message: Two students, Adriana Dalskeba and Abby Key, presented Morgan’s Message, a peer-support program started after the death of a former collegiate athlete to reduce stigma around athletes’ mental health. The students said they would meet monthly (first Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m., in the gym) with coach Bostwick serving as advisor, run discussions and awareness events, and organize dedication games and outreach.
Both club proposals were seconded and approved by roll call: Libby Corbeau, Ryan Hall, Pete Moraglia, Jackie Jorgensen and Rachel Hughes all voted “aye.”
The committee complimented students and advisors on their leadership; members said they regarded the clubs as low-cost ways to expand student opportunities.
The approvals were procedural votes taken during the regular meeting; no additional conditions were recorded.
