The Canton School Committee and district staff honored longtime teacher Ed McDonough at the Jan. 23 meeting, recognizing his districtwide work with students, alumni engagement, and leadership in school media and performing arts.
Board members and administrators presented McDonough with a plaque and a vintage-style camera and praised his mentorship. "It's never about me. It's about we," McDonough said, accepting the recognition and thanking students, colleagues and community partners.
Speakers highlighted McDonough's role in establishing student media connections with the entertainment industry, his mentorship of alumni working in television and film, and his influence on student capstone projects and community partnerships. One colleague noted a student-produced 20-minute tribute video and several alumni appearances as evidence of McDonough's long-term impact.
Committee members and community partners—including representatives from Canton Cable—thanked McDonough for recording school events and for building a media program that supports student work and district communications. McDonough said he plans to remain engaged with schools after retirement.
