Staff noted the county currently has committed about $150,000 of the settlement funds and that the outstanding applications exceed available 2025 funding. Commissioners asked staff to follow up with applicants to learn whether projects could proceed with partial awards or be staged to match available funds.
Esther (county staff) told the board KDNA’s application included 30‑ to 60‑second daily radio spots, 3‑ to 5‑minute “novella” segments and longer public affairs programming; the station also proposed airing content on additional stations to broaden reach. Staff reported the review panel scored KDNA lower on some technical checklist items but that those zeros appeared tied to application responses on staffing and external funding rather than program merit.
Commissioners instructed staff to contact the remaining applicants to determine whether partial or phased funding could be effective and to return with updated information for a decision at the next commissioners’ work session.
