The Tahlequah City Council voted on Feb. 3 to accept beneficial interest in the Cherokee County 911 Authority trust, a procedural step city officials described as housekeeping to maintain the city’s role in regional 911 governance and funding.
City attorney John Strandell explained the change would make the city a co‑beneficiary of the trust alongside Cherokee County, which enables a city official to continue to serve on the 911 board as before and allows the city to appropriate funds in support of the system. Strandell described the action as following “years” of interagency cooperation among local public‑safety entities.
Council approved the item on a voice or roll call with affirmative votes recorded for Councilor Allen, Councilor Perry and Mayor Suzanne Myers.
