Commissioners approve staff to pursue lighting upgrades and grant opportunities for jail and campus buildings

The Board voted 3-0 to approve Proposal 2025-0113 Maintenance 2, authorizing Public Works to obtain information and pursue grants, rebates and contractor options for lighting upgrades at the jail and other county campus buildings.
Public Works (Rob Grandstaff) said a 2029 phase-out of fluorescent fixtures is already driving supply limitations; many county buildings still use fluorescent fixtures. Grandstaff said staff began by asking Pacific Power about inventory and potential company contributions and that available rebates and grant windows make now the appropriate time to evaluate LED conversions intended to lower operating costs.
Commissioner Clayton asked whether the department would use small-works, Department of Enterprise Services or other contracting methods; staff said multiple methods are under consideration. Commissioners approved staff proceeding to gather information and pursue incentives and grants to plan future projects.
The board passed the motion 3-0.
