County seeks bids for search-and-rescue site preparation; phase 1 engineering estimate $466K–$515K

The Kittitas County Board of Commissioners authorized advertising a notice of call for sealed bids for site preparation of a proposed search-and-rescue/emergency operations center in the upper county.
Cameron Curtis, Public Works, told the board the county secured an emergency operations center grant of about $1.2 million for the project. Public Works has budgeted an additional approximately $1.55 million for completion of phase one and said a further amendment could add roughly $492,000. Curtis described phase one as site preparation — rough grading, digging a well and other work to prepare the site for later construction — and read the engineers' estimate as roughly $466,000 to $515,000 for that scope.
Curtis asked the board to approve advertising a call for sealed bids for the work. A commissioner noted that the minor improvements in the project accounted for about half the award permits and expressed hope the engineers' estimate is close to actual bid results; another commissioner said they were pleased to see the project advance. The board approved the call for bids on the consent agenda.
Public Works said additional funding amendments are anticipated as the project moves forward and that this phase is intended to ready the site for subsequent construction phases if funding and bids align with estimates.
