CDS proposes agritourism committee; staff to monitor Senate Bill 5055

Chad Beyla, Community Development Services director, told commissioners he has discussed agritourism work with the chamber and said CDS can draft a resolution to form an agritourism committee to guide public outreach, surveys and regulatory suggestions.
Beyla said the county’s land‑use process can proceed in parallel with the Chamber of Commerce’s consultant work and that CDS proposes to start community engagement on questions such as whether an overlay zone or agritourism regulations are appropriate.
A commissioner referenced Senate Bill 5055, saying the bill includes agritourism provisions and is still in committee. Staff advised the board to “keep an eye on this” because an adopted state law could affect how the county proceeds; at the same time staff said there is nothing preventing the county from conducting outreach and vetting options now.
No formal motion to create an agritourism committee was recorded at the study session. Beyla said he would proceed to draft a resolution if the board wishes to move forward.
