Sarasota interlocal agreement reviewed; district, cities reiterate school concurrency rules and notice periods

At the 20th annual convocation of governments, Sarasota County Schools planning staff reviewed the countywide interlocal agreement that governs coordination between the school district and local governments on school facility planning and concurrency. The presentation summarized how the agreement channels data sharing, site review and capacity determinations used to time new schools and capital projects.

The interlocal agreement, required by Florida statute in 2003 and amended in 2008 to add school concurrency, binds the school district and six local governments — Sarasota County, the City of Venice, the City of Sarasota, the City of North Port, the Town of Longboat Key and Sarasota County Schools — to share population and student-projection data and to meet annually.
