Commissioners decline immediate action on planning and zoning vehicles after staff presents alternatives

Wagoner County—s discussion of two planning and zoning vehicle purchases produced no immediate approvals after staff and commissioners questioned fleet condition, maintenance costs and funding sources.
Patrick Plumlee, planning and zoning director, presented two separate items: (E) a proposed 2024 diesel Sierra intended to replace a high-capacity vehicle and (J) an alternate 2025 gasoline Sierra priced at $58,009.75 that staff said would be cheaper to maintain. Plumlee said if a new vehicle is purchased the department planned to surplus three older vehicles that have recurring mechanical problems.
Commissioners asked for a side-by-side warranty and feature comparison between a Generac and a CAT quote for an earlier related generator item and also asked Plumlee to provide clearer line-item budgets and to confirm whether the state contract applied to vehicle buying. Plumlee said the state contract route would be pursued by purchasing staff.
Board action: Item E (2024 diesel) received —no action— after commissioners discussed maintenance and shop availability. Item J (2025 gasoline Sierra, $58,009.75) was presented but the motion to approve failed for lack of a second; commissioners recorded no approval.
Ending: Commissioners directed staff to provide a side-by-side comparison of warranty, switchgear and state-contract status, and to report back with clear funding availability before bringing vehicle purchases back to the board.
