Kennett Consolidated School District administrators presented an updated Bullying and Cyberbullying Policy (Policy 249) to the committee and described an associated draft administrative regulation (AR) that will be circulated to principals once finalized.
Assistant Superintendent Michael Barber said the policy is subject to an annual review requirement and that the draft AR follows a step-by-step flow similar to district Title IX procedures, including supportive measures and remedies. He said the AR is currently with the district's Equity Advisory Committee (EAC) and will be finalized if the policy moves forward.
Board members asked whether adult-on-adult conduct would be covered. Barber said adult issues are typically handled under the district nondiscrimination and harassment policies for employees and that educator-conduct provisions and disciplinary procedures already exist in the district’s policies. Committee members also discussed the need to review employee-nondiscrimination policies in light of recent court decisions and flagged that some employee-related policies may require revision.
No vote was taken. Staff will finalize the AR, confirm alignment with Title IX and employee-policy series, and return the updated policy and AR to the board for consideration.
