Commissioners table decision on AED service-and-supply contract with Cintas for one week

Rogers County commissioners discussed replacing and servicing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in county facilities and on Jan. 27 voted to table action for one week pending a written proposal from Cintas.

County staff said the county currently has about 11 AED units distributed across facilities (courthouse, jail, sheriff’s office, warehouses and barns) and said many of the existing units have reached their life expectancy. Staff reviewed a proposal from Cintas for either outright purchase or a 36‑month service-and-supply agreement. The proposal on the table was a 36‑month agreement at $112.50 per unit per month, with the vendor providing monthly checks, replacements for expired consumables and periodic service. Staff said trade-in credits would apply for older units (a figure of about $250 per unit was cited as a rough estimate) but that a formal addendum and written pricing were still pending legal review with the vendor.

Staff also described features of the newer models, including pediatric/adult detection that adjusts shock delivery, a capability older units lack. Commissioners raised auditing and accounting questions about where trade-in credits and replacement costs would be recorded and how departments that originally purchased units would be reimbursed for trade-ins.

Because county auditors would review the accounting treatment and the vendor’s written offer had not been provided at the meeting, the board voted to table the contract for one week. Commissioners and staff emphasized that existing AEDs remain usable and urged no hesitation to deploy them in an emergency.
