Oklahoma County commissioners on Jan. 30, 2025 approved a $220,918 amendment to an existing contract to clean air-handling units and relocate temperature sensors at the county jail, a county staff member said.
County staff told the board the work follows a test cleaning of one air-handling unit that produced noticeable improvements. "We cleaned out 1 of the air handling units, kind of as a test to see, how bad it really was and if it made a big difference, and it did," the staff member said. The amendment covers the cleaning of the remaining units and placement of temperature sensors in better locations to get more accurate readings in the housing pods.
The staff presentation said there are more than 40 air-handling units in the facility and that their replacement locations for temperature sensors would provide "truer readings on what the was really the temperature in the pods." The board voted to approve the contract amendment during the meeting; a motion and second were recorded and commissioners voiced their approval.
The staff described the amendment as an amendment to an existing contract and identified the funding source as American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) project funds for the jail HVAC work. No additional speakers registered for public comment on the item and the board moved the measure as presented.
