Committee forwards bill aligning state CDL checks with federal clearinghouse

The House Transportation Committee recommended Senate Bill 59, a bill amending state procedures for commercial driver’s licenses to conform with federal rules.
Senator Rippon, the bill sponsor, told the committee the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration maintains a clearinghouse of drug and alcohol offenses for commercial drivers and that the bill requires the state to consult that clearinghouse when issuing or renewing commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs). The sponsor said the change is intended to bring Utah into alignment with federal requirements.
No public opposition was recorded in committee testimony. The committee voted to pass the bill with a favorable recommendation.
