Staff presentation: Bethany Grubbs described the plinth outside City Hall, confirmed the plinth will remain after planned building renovations, and recommended authorization to move forward with a permanent artwork selection process. Grubbs advised that comparable civic-scale sculpture projects can cost in the order of $200,000 and requested council confirmation of a programming budget up to that amount to support a formal call to artists.
Council action: Council approved a motion to proceed with the call to artists and the programming budget (voice vote). Staff said they will return with the size/scale and selection parameters and will link the permanent sculpture program to the city’s broader public-art and branding work.
