“ We are a service organization,” said Rick Haddock, a long‑time Lions member. He described the Lions’ vision‑screening initiative and said the club owns several automated vision‑screening machines. “They're about 7,000 each for us to buy them,” Haddock said, describing the equipment the club uses to screen children as young as six months and up to school age.
Haddock and other Lions members said the clubs partner with local schools and health staff; they provide pass/fail screening results to school nurses, who then notify parents when further evaluation is needed. The Lions also collect eyewear for international recycling and run recurring community events such as a children’s fishing derby and an annual one‑day food drive that, the speaker said, has grown into a large regional effort.
The club offered to collaborate with the neighborhood association on events and screening opportunities and encouraged residents to attend a monthly Lions meeting (fourth Thursday of every month) or to contact the Lions via a QR code card distributed at the meeting. Club representatives said they carry liability coverage that can support participation in community events.
