DNR will not pause ‘Dabbler’ timber sale; Clark County to request state presentation on old-growth policy

Jordan Bogie reported Jan. 29 that the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) returned the county’s inquiry and indicated the Dabbler timber sale is not paused. Bogie said she is aware of ongoing litigation related to the sale but that the county lacks authority to stop state trust land sales.
Several councilors asked staff to continue to pursue a presentation from DNR explaining how the agency manages state trust lands, including older-growth forests and how decisions affect junior taxing districts. Bogie said she would continue to schedule DNR staff for a council presentation and offered to circulate notes and screenshots taken from a prior DNR presentation until a full DNR briefing could be scheduled for the full council.
Council members emphasized that the timber sale was a loss to the community and asked staff to keep the council apprised of litigation developments. No formal county action to block the sale was taken; staff said the county may have opportunities to engage further if litigation proceeds.
