The Metropolitan School District (MSD) Wabash County Schools board elected Scott Hopper president, Christian Rosine vice president and Kevin Bowman secretary during its organizational meeting and approved a set of administrative appointments and housekeeping items for 2025.
The board, meeting in its January organizational session, unanimously approved the slate of officers. It also voted to retain the law firm of Downs, Tandy & Pintrinu, P.C., at a rate of $220 per hour, and to appoint Dr. Chris (name not specified in the record) as corporate treasurer with Laura Baer as deputy treasurer. The board reaffirmed bond and bookkeeper bond amounts “as per Indiana Code 20-41-1-6” when adopting the treasurer appointments.
Board members kept elected compensation at $2,000 annually with a $100 per-meeting stipend for regular board meetings and an additional $25 per meeting for representatives to the Harker and Career Center (not to exceed 12 meetings). The board also set the mileage reimbursement rate for employees at 49¢ per mile, consistent with the teacher master contract.
The board approved continuing two $500 scholarships (one each for Northfield and Southwood) funded by an annual $200 contribution from each board member, a tradition the board said began in 1994.
On administrative designations, the board approved naming the Indiana Plain Dealer as the district’s legal newspaper for required legal notices. It also approved continued participation with cooperative entities referenced in the meeting as WMAP and Heartland Care Center to support accountability processes with the State Board of Accounts and the Indiana Department of Education.
The board appointed Mike Kiefer as the district’s Local Education Agency (LEA) officer with authority to file federal grant applications on the school corporation’s behalf, and approved Kevin Bowman as the board’s nonvoting representative to the county redevelopment commission.
All motions recorded in the transcript passed on voice votes with no recorded opposition.
The meeting also included short public recognition items (donations and student achievements) before adjournment.
