Council backs letter supporting Astound Broadband, NOA Net for federal broadband grant

Clark County Council gave staff a thumbs up to send a letter of support for Astound Broadband’s application with NOA Net seeking Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment funding for four project areas in the county.
Jordan Bogie, senior policy analyst for Clark County, told the council Jan. 29 that an internet service provider has requested a letter of support for a federal Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) grant application covering four project areas in north and northeast Clark County.
Bogie said the applicant, Astound Broadband, is partnering with NOA Net and that the county has existing Astound service in parts of Vancouver and Ridgefield. Bogie asked whether the council would provide a thumbs-up for a letter supporting the applications. Councilors answered with a thumbs-up, with the meeting record noting five council thumbs-ups.
Bogie said the support letter would signal local backing for state department of commerce funding to deploy fiber “to the un- and underserved areas” in the county. The council did not take a formal roll-call vote; staff recorded the consensus thumbs-up and will prepare and send the letter of support to the applicant and the state as requested.
