Commission discusses graves/excavation liability resolution and ARPA-funded LATCF expenditures

The Limestone County Commission discussed two resolutions at its Feb. 3 work session: a resolution concerning graves and excavation and a resolution authorizing expenditures from the LATCF fund (ARPA money).
The chair described the graves-and-excavation resolution and proposed an effective date of April 1. Drew (county staff member) said the resolution would impose a $50 per-grave fee “per state law” and require an indemnity agreement in favor of the county for both human grave excavation and farm animal disposal. Drew said the indemnity requirement is standard practice so the county is not liable if someone directs staff to dig without fully checking their property. The chair and staff agreed to finalize collection procedures with Drew before the effective date.
On the LATCF resolution, the chair said the measure would authorize the county to expend LATCF funds—part of the county’s ARPA allocation—to finish P25 radio-system work and “some other things.” No detailed budget amounts were provided during the work session.
Neither resolution was recorded as formally approved during the work session; staff said they would finalize wording and operational details (collections, indemnity forms, and any procurement steps) for presentation at the upcoming commission meeting.
