Resident presses county on tree trimming and paving; engineer outlines patching and signal plans

County Engineer Mark Massey said major patching on Mooresville Road is finishing this week and staff is coordinating signal and turn-lane design with the City of Huntsville.
Jeff Bergreen, a Limestone County resident, urged the commission to increase tree trimming and to pave county-maintained sections of Pyle Road and parts of Huntsville Browns Ferry Road near Cambridge Lane.
“I just wanted to address … the tree trimming, you know, out where it's still Limestone County,” Bergreen said, noting several entrances “need to be really cut back” and that some stretches had not been cut since 2011. He also asked whether county-maintained stretches of Huntsville Browns Ferry Road and Mooresville Road will be resurfaced.
County Engineer Mark Massey responded that crews are completing an extensive patching program on Mooresville Road this week. He said staff is working with the City of Huntsville on design issues at the Mooresville–Huntsville Browns Ferry intersection to accommodate a traffic signal and turn lanes, and that turn lanes are planned for Old Highway 20. After the patching work, Massey said the entire Mooresville Road project will be resurfaced but that the portion of Huntsville Browns Ferry Road near Cambridge Lane lies inside Huntsville city limits and therefore is not a county resurfacing obligation.
The chair and Massey took Bergreen’s tree-trimming concerns under advisement; no additional timeline for right-of-way trimming was announced during the work session.
