Levi Jacqueline wins local spelling bee; Leo Murdoch second, Katie third

Levi Jacqueline won first place at a local spelling bee that concluded after several rounds, the spelling bee moderator announced. Leo Murdoch finished second and Katie placed third.
The spelling bee moderator said the event recognized participants with ribbons and invited the top three finishers to compete at the district spelling bee on Feb. 18 at Star Hall. "Now we would like to present 3rd place to Katie. 2nd place to Leo Murdoch ... And 1st place to Levi Jacqueline," the spelling bee moderator said. The moderator also told parents, "You are responsible for transporting your students there."
Organizers handed ribbons to all participants and named additional students who competed, including Adley Corbin, Simon, Ally, Ian and Gabe. After the awards, moderators reminded families of the district event logistics and distributed spelling packets and paperwork for those advancing.
The competition proceeded through multiple rounds in which moderators gave words, definitions and homonym notes before confirming correct or incorrect spellings and eliminating contestants. Organizers praised students for their performance at the event’s close and invited families to applaud all participants.
The district spelling bee will take place Feb. 18 at Star Hall; travel to that event is the responsibility of each student’s family, the moderator said.
