The board approved a contract to buy new golf carts for Sunrise Golf Course to replace a largely depleted fleet and improve rental availability.
Christian Hansen, representing the golf course, told the board the course currently has 35 carts but only 33 are operational; some have been cannibalized for parts. He said the city negotiated an order down from an initial 60 carts to 45 — including one utility/utility cart for grounds staff — to meet demand during tournaments and peak weekends. "45 carts will enable us to probably sell carts several times throughout the season," Hansen said.
Hansen said the vendor (Club Car) offered to buy the old carts as a lump sum at about $1,200 per unit, yielding roughly $39,000 to apply toward the purchase. Parks and finance staff confirmed the purchase is budgeted in the parks 2025 operating pro forma and that the first payment schedule will align with sale‑of‑old‑cart proceeds. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
Staff said the carts will be stored using existing golf‑course infrastructure and that the purchase aims to support tournaments and regular play without additional immediate storage or infrastructure changes.
