Fort Myers Beach — At its Feb. 3 meeting the council voted unanimously to appoint Carolyn McKeown to the Cultural & Environmental Learning Center advisory board, filling a vacancy for the remainder of her late husband’s term. The council’s vote was 5–0.
Background and process: Two applicants had applied for the vacancy: Carolyn McKeown (seeking to fill the remainder of her late husband’s term) and Laurie Wolf (a regular applicant). McKeown spoke briefly about her involvement supporting the Mound House projects and her intent to continue her husband’s work on the advisory board.
The clerk conducted a roll-call tally of council votes: each council member present voted for Carolyn McKeown. After the tally was announced the council formally approved the appointment.
Why it matters: The Cultural & Environmental Learning Center (the Mound House) is a community nonprofit and historic site important to Fort Myers Beach cultural programming and conservation efforts; filling advisory-board seats maintains continuity in oversight and fundraising.
