Weston student representatives report smoother midterms, upcoming musical and events

Student leaders told the Weston Board of Education Tuesday that the district’s new midterm schedule and student-organized supports drew positive feedback.
Jaya, an executive student-government president, said the high school tried a new schedule for midterms that included two 80-minute review periods (the Friday before midterms and the Wednesday during midterms). She said students and teachers reported the schedule helped with studying. Jaya also thanked the Parent Teacher Organization for providing refreshments — including smoothies, hot chocolate, donuts and bagels — during hour-long breaks between exams.
Emily, the other student-government president, said the winter sports season is at midseason and that the second semester begins the following day, when underclassmen begin course selection work with counselors. She noted rehearsals have begun for the spring musical (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and said the student government plans a winter pep rally on Feb. 7, a Super Bowl–themed food drive starting Jan. 29, and a school talent show on Feb. 14 called "Weston's Got Talent." The students had no questions from the board and exited after the update.
Board members thanked the student representatives for the report and for the work on midterm supports.
