The Grosse Ile DDA discussed logo and branding options for the proposed Macomb Street social district and agreed to develop signage and cup branding ahead of a public meeting on Macomb in April.
Ross, the DDA director, presented two concept directions from a graphic designer: a stamp/ticket motif intended for cup branding and a second, more arts-driven letterform that uses Macomb Street imagery inside the letters. The board discussed how participating businesses would use branded cups and whether the DDA would provide an initial supply of cups or require businesses to procure their own after launch. "We would order 500 cups for Lloyd's and it'll be like in the stamp scenario, Macomb Social District, Lloyd's," Ross said, describing an example of the proposed stamping approach.
Board members discussed signage at district boundaries and required "rules of engagement" postings at participating businesses. Several members favored the stamp/ticket option as consistent with the DDA's existing brand colors. The board asked staff to show the logos applied to realistic sign and cup mockups at next month's meeting and to coordinate a Macomb Street meeting for April to present the concept to merchants and property owners.
The DDA also discussed venue options for the April meeting and preliminary expectations for attendance; staff said locations seating approximately 30 people had been considered. No final branding decision or formal vote was taken; the board offered direction to return with refined mockups and application examples for signage and cups.
