City engineering staff reported a low bid of $500,477.75 and recommended a 10% construction contingency, bringing the total authorization to $550,525.53. The commission also approved an appropriation and amendment of the Local Streets Fund budget to support the project. The motions carried by roll call; staff said the contractor is the same firm that performed previous cape-seal work for the city and that they know city processes.
The commission approved routine consent items earlier in the meeting, and the special event permit for the Birmingham Street Art Fair (Sept. 13–14, 2025) was approved under the consent agenda contingent on permits, insurance and fees.
