Board approves three policies for first reading, including drone language and public-records update

The Tredyffrin‑Easttown School Board on Jan. 27 approved three district policies on first reading and scheduled them for possible adoption at the next regular meeting. The policies, listed for first reading, were policy 1123 (public access to school district records), policy 1330 (tobacco, smoking products and electronic smoking products use — general public), and policy 1341 (restrictions on use of electronic devices — general public).
Rachel Weil, reporting for the policy committee, said revisions to policy 1123 and its regulation designate the board secretary as the district's open‑records officer unless the board designates otherwise and added language that duplication of records will be governed by applicable state and federal law. Policy 1330’s regulation was revised to remove the policy-level definition of tobacco products and align definitional language with existing student policy 5411. Policy 1341 was updated in regulation to include unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) among electronic devices and prohibits their use without prior approval of the superintendent or designee.
The board took a voice vote after Weil's report; the motion to approve the policies for first reading carried with the ayes.
Weil said further changes and the full regulatory language will be available as the policies move toward adoption at a future meeting.
