Council authorizes negotiation, possible condemnation for Town Creek easements at 106 SE Broad Street

The Murfreesboro City Council voted unanimously to authorize staff to negotiate and, if necessary, initiate condemnation proceedings to acquire easements at 106 Southeast Broad Street for the Town Creek daylighting project.
A staff presenter told the council the property is the McDonald’s at that address and that the city previously approved acquisition steps last year. The city obtained additional appraisals after identifying extra easements needed for the project and presented a revised appraisal value of $92,520. Staff asked council to authorize negotiation up to the limits allowed by federal property acquisition guidelines and to fund the acquisition from the general fund.
City staff said the action authorizes negotiation of a settlement and the initiation of condemnation if negotiations fail; the council approved the request on a roll-call vote: Miss Aberwater, Mr. Maxwell, Vice Mayor Schacklett, Mr. Wade and Mayor McFarland voted aye.
Staff indicated funding will come from the general fund and offered to answer further questions; no council member requested additional details during the motion and vote.
