The House Health Care & Wellness Committee on Jan. 31 amended and reported House Bill 1186, which clarifies what medications and therapies a hospital or health care entity may dispense to patients on discharge. The committee adopted a clarifying amendment to ensure manufacturer‑packaged drugs larger than a 48‑hour supply for hospitals or a 72‑hour supply for health care entities may be dispensed only if the drug or therapy cannot be altered to limit quantity to those shorter supplies.
Representative Partially moved the amendment, calling it "clarifying language," and Representative Parsley described the bill as a response to growing pharmacy access issues that let hospitals provide more supply at discharge so care is appropriate. Committee discussion framed the bill as a practical fix to "pharmacy deserts." An expedited voice vote recorded 19 ayes, 0 nays and the substitute was reported out of committee with a due‑pass recommendation.
