District recognizes English-language development leader Jenny LaRue with statewide award

District 196 recognized Jenny LaRue on Jan. 13 after she received the Harold B. Allen award at the Minnesota English Learners Educators Conference for contributions to English language education.
Amy Miller, coordinator on the Instruction and Achievement team, told the board that LaRue directs a team of more than 90 ELD teachers and supports more than 2,700 multilingual students in the district. "Jenny's impact in district 196 is nothing short of extraordinary," Miller said, citing the district's above-average performance on the ACCESS language assessment and a job-embedded coaching system LaRue helped implement.
Miller read excerpts from nearly 100 notes of gratitude submitted by LaRue's colleagues, including one that said, in part: "It's a mix of your caring and knowledgeable presence that makes people trust you, seek out your guidance and enjoy being around you. Your humor can take a tense situation and make it feel manageable."
Superintendent Michael Bolsoni and the board joined Miller in thanking LaRue for her leadership and asked the community to join in recognizing her work.
Ending: The district invited board members and the public to join in congratulating LaRue and noted her statewide presentations and leadership as a point of district pride.
