Lipton told the board the trip is an annual team tradition that this year would move from its usual Minnesota camping site to Bozeman to give athletes “the opportunity to spend time with teammates, build more relationships, and practice leadership skills.” Ian Shimonthani told the board the team has about 80–90 members and that typically 50–55 athletes participate; he said costs will be about $375–$425 per participant and that families are expected to cover those costs, with some community assistance available for students in need.
Board members asked logistical questions about chaperones and safety. Presenters said coaches and volunteer chaperones will attend and that chaperone requirements include being able to run a mile; that requirement was mentioned as part of the district’s expectations for supervising students on the trip.
Board member Matt moved to approve the request; Cassie (Cassidy) seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
The board wished the team well for the summer trip.
