Easton School Committee approves updated nondiscrimination (Title IX) policy with edits

The Easton School Committee on Jan. 9 voted to approve Policy ACA, the district’s nondiscrimination and harassment policy (Title IX), with several clarifying edits.
Doctor Cabral told the committee that legal guidance recommended naming the assistant superintendent as the district Title IX coordinator for student reports and the director of human resources for personnel reports; both changes were accepted as edits during discussion. "The legal guidance that we received from your attorney said that it should be the assistant superintendent's office listed as the office for student reporting, and that the director of human resources should be for employee reporting," Doctor Cabral said.
Committee members also asked that the policy include a visible link to the district grievance procedures and to the bullying-prevention plan; staff said the online policy document will contain hyperlinks to those documents. Committee legal counsel (Carol) confirmed that attaching or linking the grievance procedures is acceptable and that doing so will help parents see the process before filing complaints.
