Germantown's beer board voted unanimously on Jan. 27 to grant an on-premise beer permit to Abraham Valenzuela for Asadero Mexican Grill at 3165 Forest Hill Road.
Clerk Betty presented the permit application and told the board that the restaurant sits in the C1 zoning district, where on-premise consumption of beer is permitted subject to beer-board approval, and that a 10-year background check returned no disqualifying information.
Alderman Sanders moved to approve the permit and Alderman Hicks seconded. Sanders asked the applicant about prior experience and compliance history. Applicant Abraham Valenzuela said his group has operated restaurants for about 25 years and that a current location, Rancho Grande on Hacks Cross/Bethel Road, holds a permit and has had "No. None whatsoever" violations. Valenzuela described staff training requirements and said the business had "actually started selling liquor today." The board voted by roll call: Hicks—yes; Yulicki—yes; Salvaggio—yes; Sanders—yes; Vice Mayor Mary Anne Gibson—yes.
After the vote, the board congratulated the applicant and Clerk Betty directed Valenzuela to pick up his license. The beer board recessed and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen returned to regular session.
