Beth (Beth) Elroy told the committee she grew up in Jerome, earned a mathematics degree from the College of Idaho and a master’s in environmental engineering from Idaho State University, and has worked at Micron for more than 20 years in roles spanning environmental engineering, construction and operations.
Elroy said her priorities on the Board of Environmental Quality include retaining technical talent at the Department of Environmental Quality and providing oversight of contested cases. She said the board should balance environmental protection with business prosperity and offered examples from industry where environmental innovation reduced operational costs.
Sen. Shippey asked Elroy about agricultural risks and cloud seeding. Elroy said she is not an expert on either topic and deferred to agriculture and meteorological specialists but reiterated that protecting land and balancing agricultural production with social responsibility are important goals.
Committee members thanked Elroy for her remarks and said they will take her reappointment up at a later meeting; no confirmation vote was held during this hearing.
