BID approves November minutes; reviews holiday decorations, sponsorship shortfall and reserve spending

The Bozeman City Business Improvement District approved its November meeting minutes by roll call during the Jan. 15 meeting.
Board members reviewed finances for the holiday program. The board had budgeted $3,500 for Christmas-light sponsorships this year and reported about $500 still pending; to date they had received approximately $2,000 in sponsorship receipts. Staff described that banner and flower sponsorship revenue was ahead of projections while the light sponsorship receipts were lower than in prior years, which board members attributed to busier event calendars and tougher business conditions.
Members discussed planned replacement of holiday decorations next year: the BID will replace the final "white spider" and has samples from DeJolio Displays to review. The board expects to start using $15,000 in reserve funds to purchase garland and bows and to begin replacing older strands; the spider replacement will fall into the next fiscal-year budget. Board members also discussed possibly outsourcing installation work, and raised insurance and safety questions about hiring outside help to hang decorations.
The board reviewed a pilot maintenance-reporting landing page and QR-code sticker plan intended to let property owners and the public report maintenance issues. Staff said the landing page has received limited use to date—about five submissions—and discussed options such as plaques or sponsor-style signs that would be more durable than stickers.
No other budget reallocations were adopted at the meeting; staff will circulate draft FY26 items in February and the BID's budgets will be presented at the Bozeman city commission meeting on May 6, 2025.
