Trumbull County commissioners said they were moved by the recent swearing‑in of Melissa Baker to the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities and plan to present a resolution honoring her at an upcoming meeting.
Commissioners said Baker is the first board member with lived experience of services from the county’s developmental‑disabilities system to serve on the board of directors. Officials described Baker’s personal experience with cerebral palsy, her engagement in the community and her participation in arts shows as reasons they believe she will bring valuable perspective to the board.
Ed Stark, superintendent of the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities, told commissioners he appreciated their attendance at the board’s meeting and said Baker has already begun participating and expects to be comfortable in her role after a short adjustment period.
Ending
Commissioners said they will draft and pass a resolution honoring Baker; they asked that Baker be invited to receive the resolution at an upcoming county meeting.
