Sequim council sets February interview schedule to fill council vacancy

Heather (staff) told council there were initially 10 applicants, now eight, and proposed half‑hour interview blocks to allow 20 minutes of council questions and roughly 10 minutes for candidate questions. Councilors agreed to hold six interviews on Monday, Feb. 3 (starting at 5 p.m.), two interviews on Thursday, Feb. 6 (5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.), and an executive session at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10 to discuss candidates. The newly selected councilor is expected to take the oath of office at the regular Feb. 10 meeting that same evening.
Councilors discussed scheduling constraints and said the earlier start dates would allow the new appointee to participate in the Feb. 24 comprehensive‑plan retreat. Council members noted some flexibility for virtual attendance at interviews and confirmed staff will circulate a formal interview schedule and logistics.
No formal vote was needed to set the interview dates; the council reached consensus and staff will publish the schedule and notices to candidates.
