W.J. Dent & Sons, operating as Chiefs Bar in Lexington Park, received approval on Jan. 10 for an extended outdoor smoking area that will be built as a deck, and for alcohol consumption at horseshoe events one hour before, during and one hour after scheduled games. The board also clarified that indoor live music is permitted under existing rules.
Owner David Dent described plans for a deck off the back of the building and a nearby horseshoe pit area. Board members discussed boundaries, surveillance and monitoring, and posting signage prohibiting alcohol consumption off the licensed premises. Dent said the plan included video surveillance and employee monitoring; the board reminded the licensee that any alcohol taken off the deck into the parking area is not permitted.
Dent requested permission to allow patrons in the horseshoe-pit area to have alcoholic beverages during league events; the board said such extensions are typically limited to one hour before, during, and one hour after scheduled events, similar to softball-field extensions. A combined motion to approve the smoking-deck extension and the horseshoe-event service was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Board members also confirmed that indoor live music does not require a separate approval for this request; the applicant said live performances are occasional and small-scale.
