The Alcohol Beverage Board for St. Mary’s County on Feb. 8 approved the transfer of a Class D beer, wine and liquor license for the William Wimpensinger Education and Technology Center to Christopher Wagner, the center’s newly named director.
The application, filed to transfer the license from James D. Leslie to Wagner, drew no opposition. Wagner told the board the Wimpensinger Center is run by the International Association of Machinists as a residential education center and that the license is for members-only use. "It's exclusively for the use of IAM members," Wagner said, adding the bartenders are TAMS certified and that staff will refuse service to anyone who becomes unruly.
Board members asked about operational experience and oversight; Wagner said he has worked at the center more than 17 years, served recently as assistant director and now will oversee activities and orientations where service rules are reiterated. The board noted there had been no notable complaints on file regarding the facility and, after a motion and second, voted to approve the transfer.
The board recorded the motion to approve the transfer and received no opposition on the final vote. The board chair congratulated Wagner and closed the item.
The action does not change operational restrictions: the license remains for on‑premises service exclusively for IAM members and under the same capacity and service arrangements described in the application.
Wagner provided his home address (24566 Cotswold Drive, Hollywood, Md.) and the Premises address (William Wimpensinger Education and Technology Center, 24494 Placid Harbor Way, Hollywood, Md.).
The board’s approval was procedural and conditional only to the extent of standard transfer requirements; no additional follow-up assignments were recorded during the meeting.
