The St. Mary's County Alcohol Beverage Board granted a 90-day conditional approval on Sept. 14, 2017 to Big Dog’s Paradise (applicant Brian Atkins) to address structural and refrigeration issues tied to a removed walk-in box and a lean-to roof requiring repair.
Atkins told the board the county inspector had raised concerns about notched trusses and the support posts for a lean-to roof; the inspector also requested photos and an engineering review tied to snow-load concerns. Atkins said he replaced 4x4 posts with 6x6s and installed a header, and that he is arranging replacement of the flat roofing. He asked the board for a 90-day window to finish repairs and obtain reinspection.
Board staff and Atkins agreed the conditional approval should be based on submission of an updated drawing and final sign-off from the Maryland Department of Inspections and Appeals (MDIA) and county permitting staff (referred to in the meeting as Harry Knight/Jacqueline Loughlin’s office). The fire marshal had already indicated no objection by email, Atkins said.
The board moved and approved the 90-day conditional, with the condition that the applicant submit the updated construction drawing and secure permanent approval from MDIA and the county permitting office (Loughlin/Harry Knight). The board asked staff to accept the updated drawing and forward it to members so that the final administrative clearance could be confirmed.
