Dr. John Asplund, a commentator, said the Give Back Galesburg event will be held tonight at Field Gymnasium and encouraged community attendance. "We are here because tonight is the Give Back Galesburg event here at Field Gymnasium," he said.
Chad Thompson, basketball coach at Galesburg High School, said he was "just looking forward to seeing everybody coming out to the game tonight against UT," and noted that another staff member would outline special events tied to the game.
A Galesburg High School staff member identified as Ms. Aitner described the evening's fund-raising plans: "Our gold out game is tonight. We've got our gold out shirts, that have already been distributed to lots of folks, but we'll still have some on sale tonight. Our most entertaining event is gonna be at halftime. We've got our auction coming up." She said some auction items are student-created and that culinary arts students prepared treats to be sold or bid on.
Aitner listed examples of items and student contributors, saying she was "holding 1 of the auction items that our own GHS students have created. This is a streaks logo sign from Junior Lincoln wins out of Mr. Miller's class. We have also some artwork from, Nathan Malloy and Austin Fox. And we're gonna have some delicious treats you can be bidding on from missus Barrett's culinary arts classes." The announcement named Give Back Galesburg and the Klein Pediatric Wellness Foundation as organizations associated with the event.
Dr. Asplund closed by urging community members to attend: "So we're looking for a great crowd tonight. Bring your gold. Come on out, and we'll cheer on the streets."
