Superintendent Dr. Hillman presented a draft 2025–26 school calendar on Jan. 27 and asked the board to consider approving it at the Feb. 10 meeting.
Key dates in the draft calendar: staff preservice/workshop day on Aug. 25, first student day Sept. 2, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving returned to a non‑school day (the district is not continuing the prior practice of a practice e‑learning day), a full two‑week winter break with return Jan. 5, semester end Jan. 22 (with teacher workdays at the quarter end), spring break as scheduled, and the last student day on June 10. The calendar keeps a late‑start Wednesday schedule for most of the year and includes an adjusted schedule for the final day of school (one late start plus an early dismissal) to allow wrap‑up activities.
The draft also notes an unusual scheduling event on May 1: Northfield High School will host the Big Nine conference music festival. For that day, the high school would have no classes (teachers help run the festival), Northfield Middle School would run an e‑learning day, and elementary and other programs would operate on a normal day.
Hillman said the district’s meet-and-confer committee (board members Corey and Claudia, district administrators and Northfield Education Association representatives) reviewed the calendar and that the district delayed producing the draft later this year to assess how prior changes had worked in practice. The board will accept public comment and asked members to forward any calendar concerns before Feb. 10 when formal approval is requested.
