Library director Dale Wilson said construction is under way on a new 16,000-square-foot library expected to be complete in June; project cost stated at $10,000,000 and will expand program and meeting space.
Dale Wilson, director of the Irondale Public Library, said construction of a new 16,000-square-foot library began last May and the building is expected to be complete in June 2025.
Wilson said the project will double the current space, cost about $10,000,000 and add children—1s and teen areas, a meeting room with capacity for about 100 people, a conference room for 10, multiple small reservable reading rooms, an eight-computer public computer area, a small program room, vending cafe, a local history room and two outdoor program spaces.
The new building will remain part of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative, she said, meaning county cardholders will continue to use Irondale—1s collection. Wilson said staff expect to take time after construction to move collections and open to the public sometime in the summer.
Ending: Wilson said the expanded space will let the library increase story times and programming and provide more study and community meeting space.
