The Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the Jan. 29 consent agenda, which included the first reading of multiple board policies. Trustee Carmen Correa moved to approve the consent agenda; Trustee Deborah Jensen seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously (5-0) among trustees present.
During discussion before the vote, Trustee Winford Adams Jr. raised concerns about the process for receiving equity status updates after the district sunsets its Equity Committee. "That we had a clear, a clear outline of how the board would get a report on the equity status report as we move forward, with the sunsetting of the Equity Committee," Adams said, asking for a defined reporting plan as the board transitions committee responsibilities.
Board members said the first readings will proceed to a second reading at the board's February meeting; trustees noted the consent action covered approval of the first reading only. An internal auditor update was noted: the district's internal auditor (Miss Smith) has worked through a 90-day plan, with more formal audit-committee updates expected when the committee next meets.
Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa also introduced Jody Kinnamer as the district's new general counsel; Kinnamer joined the district the prior Monday and will assist with legislative and legal matters. The board moved on to subsequent agenda items after the consent vote.
