Spring ISD trustees honored at January meeting during School Board Recognition Month

Spring Independent School District trustees were honored at the board's regular meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, with student presentations, community tributes and proclamations recognizing School Board Appreciation Month.

Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa opened remarks on the district's appreciation for the locally elected board. "This locally elected board of trustees is empowered by the Texas Legislature to govern our school district," Hinojosa said, adding that board decisions are guided by what is in students' best interests. The superintendent and trustees showed a student-produced video thanking board members.

The district's chief of communications, Shane Stroupart, told the board that the State of Texas issued a proclamation declaring January as School Board Recognition Month and that several local elected officials had sent proclamations to trustees, including Commissioner Rodney Ellis, state representatives Charlene Ward Johnson and Symphonia Thompson, state senator Molly Cook and Congressman Sylvester Turner. Courtney Brown, a Girl Scout troop leader and parent, presented a troop gift and noted Girl Scout activities that will take place in Spring ISD schools during cookie season.

Principals and campus delegations presented individual tributes to trustees, with principals from Spring Woods Village Middle School, Spring Early College Academy, Robertson Middle School, Hersh Elementary and others thanking trustees for their service and leadership.

Trustees responded with brief remarks during the recognition segment. President Justine Durant and Vice President Natasha McDaniel thanked students and staff for organizing the presentations and noted recent district performances and events. Durant urged community members to monitor the ongoing Texas legislative session and to communicate with lawmakers about education bills filed this year.

The meeting moved on to regular business after the recognition items.
