The York City committee on Jan. 29 voted to place a resolution on the Feb. 4, 2025, legislative agenda authorizing the city to hire seven probationary firefighters from the civil service examination list.
Business Administrator Robertson told the committee that the department has seven vacancies caused by retirements and a few resignations and asked permission to pull from the active probationary firefighter list to staff the next academy. Robertson said the request is routine and tied to the city's civil service process.
Committee members moved and seconded putting the resolution on the Feb. 4 agenda. Committee participants indicated their support during a short vote; a member on the phone, Felicia, confirmed she was in favor. No public comments opposed the placement of the item on the agenda.
Placing the item on the Feb. 4 agenda schedules the formal resolution for consideration by the full council at that meeting. The committee did not take a final hiring vote on Jan. 29; it advanced only the resolution to be considered on Feb. 4.
