A consultant for Community High School District 128 told the school board on Jan. 26 that the superintendent search launched in September has narrowed to two finalists and that the district’s timeline remains on track for final interviews at the end of January.
The search firm (BWP) consultant said the district produced a leadership profile following community input sessions and board interviews in October and that the firm recruited and screened candidates against that profile. The firm received 22 applications, brought 14 candidates in for screenings and recommended six for the board’s initial interviews; the board conducted first‑round interviews Jan. 16–18 and identified two finalists.
Consultant remarks emphasized confidentiality as central to recruiting sitting superintendents and described the next steps: both finalists will meet privately with an advisory committee the day before the board’s final interviews; advisory-committee participants will sign confidentiality agreements and will be asked to provide written feedback to the board. Final interviews are scheduled Jan. 30 and 31, and the consultant said the board hopes to reach consensus and make an offer after those interviews.
The consultant noted the process was collaborative and that structured interview questions were used to ensure alignment with the leadership profile; she said the process remained on the timeline the board approved in September. The consultant also told the board that the advisory committee is deliberately limited in number to protect confidentiality and to focus the quality of input rather than the quantity.
Board members thanked the consultant and praised the process. No vote was required on Jan. 26 for the search steps discussed; the board will take action if and when it approves a contract for a superintendent following the final interviews.
